This heirloom kale started in the United States, moved to Ireland, and came back again! It was donated to SSE by Shane Murphy of California, who obtained it from the Irish Seed Savers Association. Charlie Hughes, of County Mayo, Ireland, has grown this variety since the 1930s and gave it to Irish Seed Savers in 1993. Charlie received it from his father Owen, who obtained it from a neighbor who had brought it to Ireland from America.
