Round, dark green fruit, somewhat variable in size, weighing 12-21 pounds when grown at Heritage Farm.
Donor Jerry Brown says 30-35 pounds is typical for him, growing them in Kansas, where they mature in 100 to 110 days. Excellent texture and flavor. Sweet and juicy. This watermelon variety was donated to SSE by Jerry Brown of Kansas. Jerry obtained the variety in the early 1960s from Walter Funk who lived south of Atchison, KS. The watermelon was grown by Walter’s parents and grandparents, with their family stewardship dating back to the 1870s. Jerry continues to grow it today.

Thin: To 3-4 Plants
Light: Full Sun
Instructions - Sow seeds outdoors in 12" diameter hills after danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed. Space hills 8' apart in all directions. Seeds will germinate in 4-10 days. Can also be started indoors 4 weeks before transplanting out. Watermelons love heat and prefer sandy or light-textured soils.
