From Newtown, Long Island, New York prior to 1795. Form variable, but usually roundish oblate, more or less angular and ribbed, medium to very large size. Skin: when first ripe, grass green, becoming yellowish with occasional brownish or brownish-pink blush and white dots. Flesh: tinged with green, firm, crisp, tender, moderately fine-textured, juicy, sprightly sub-acid, aromatic; excellent for dessert, kitchen and cider. Ripens very late.
