When Carl Johan Swenson settled near Clinton, Minnesota in 1876, he brought peas. He told his grandson, Charles Swenson, that both he and the peas came from Småland, a southern province of Sweden. Charles’ first memory of the peas is watching his grandfather planting them around a tripod of sticks in the 1930s. His aunts and uncles grew long rows of it in their gardens. Charles said the peas are typically harvested while still flat, then cut into ¼ inch pieces and creamed, to make a traditional Scandinavian dish

Instructions - Peas thrive in cool weather. Sow seeds outdoors as soon as soil can be worked in spring. Seeds will germinate in 7-14 days. Double rows of peas can be planted on each side of a trellis.
